A + B + D = Part C
Here are some general characteristics of Medicare Advantage plans, though plans may vary in coverage and availability depending on where you live.
- Also known as Part C plans. it combines part A, B and D all in one.
- You must eligible for part A and B to qualify for the plan. Other qualifications may apply.
- You pay no low or no premiums ($0 premium) because the plan is paid for and approved by Medicare.
- Advantage plans adminster your benefits through an insurance company contracted by Medicare.
- At a minimum, it covers at least the same as Original Medicare, but most plans have addtional services at no additional cost.
- The plan may offer other services which may include preventive medicine, vision, dental and other benefits, also at no additional cost.
- Prescription drug coverage (part D) is built in, at no additional cost.
- The plan has a limit on how much money you spend annually known as the maximum out of pocket amount, which makes your expenses more predictable.
- It may have overall lower costs than the 2 other options, a supplement or Original Medicare
